Ice cream social will be held at museum
The Aiken County Historical Museum will have cool treats on a hot summer evening at an ice cream social fundraiser next week.
The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at the museum at 433 Newberry St. S.W. Sweet Cow Creamery will provide ice cream for the social, which will be served from the museum's drugstore counter exhibit. Admission to the social is free, but ice cream will be $1 per scoop in donations to the museum, according to executive director Elliott Levy.
"We've talked about doing an ice cream social as a little different kind of fundraiser and a fun thing to do," Levy said. "Last year a young lady brought over a box of glasses her parents had bought at the closing of a drugstore with a soda fountain. We've got banana split and sundae dishes and milkshake glasses."
The social is also a thank you to the volunteers who restored the drugstore exhibit, according to Levy. The drugstore counter and its contents were given to the museum by Joanne Zobel, whose father owned a drug store in Dunbarton. July 11 is Joanne Zobel's birthday, and Levy has called to invite her to the social.
"We've had a lot of interest in this from the Friends of the Museum, and we wanted to open it up for the public to enjoy," Levy said.
