William Thomas Basnight
William Thomas "Bill" Basnight, 76, beloved husband of Jeannette Rodgers Basnight, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Bill was born Nov. 16, 1932, in Princess County, Va., to William Thomas, and Mary Lee Lane Basnight Sr. He grew up in Elizabeth City, N.C., and was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from the textile industry and had lived in Aiken since 1995. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a friend to everyone.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Shellhouse Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Good Hope Lutheran Church Cemetery in Saluda County. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and honorary pallbearers will be employees of Triangle Dodge. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Jeannette, include four daughters, Trina (Stabler) Inabinete of Orangeburg, Kelly (Brian) Rae of Columbia, Kristy Basenight of Augusta and Katey Perkins of Batesburg; four sons, Thomas Allen Basenight and his special friend, Rebecca of Morganton, N.C., Christopher L. Basnight and his fiancee, Catherine of Aiken, Roger A. Padgett of Tampa, Fla., and Ronnie G. Padgett of Graniteville; 26 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a sister, Callie Lane of Knotts Island, N.C. He was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.
