Raymond Joseph Goergen
A visitation for Mr. Raymond Joseph Goergen will be held on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, from 5 to 7 p.m. at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. S.W., Aiken. Friar Jeffrey Kirby will conduct a Christian wake service at 6:30 p.m. Subsequent funeral services will take place in Buffalo, N.Y. Interment will be at Nativity of Our Lord Cemetery in Orchard Park, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to Hillcrest Volunteer Fire Company, 7125 Ellicott Road, Orchard Park, N.Y. 14127.
Mr. Goergen, 83, widower of M. Joan Bork Goergen (married 49 years), died peacefully Oct. 7, 2008, in Aiken. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of John and Lucille Koch Goergen. Mr. Goergen entered the Navy in 1943 and served in the Caribbean and Pacific during World War II. He worked for AT&T for 44 years before retiring in 1990. In 1954, he became a resident of Orchard Park, N.Y., on Greenmeadow Drive. He was very active for 38 years in the Hillcrest Volunteer Fire Company serving several terms as president, an E.M.T., and fire police lieutenant. He then continued with the exempt organization. He is survived by his sons, Charles (wife, Lizabeth) of Aiken and Martin (wife, Michele) of Newport News, Va.; and daughter, Diane Lippert (husband, David) of Simpsonville. Also surviving are his seven grandchildren, Christopher Goergen (Kate), Kimberly Goergen Piggott (Twain), Brian Lippert (Cindy), Jason Goergen (Stephanie), Matthew Lippert, Daniel Goergen and Allison Lippert; four great-grandchildren, Ashlin Goergen, Kayla Piggott, Eric Piggott and Daphne Abigail Goergen. He was preceded in death by siblings, Catherine McGlauflin, John Goergen and Paul Goergen; and daughter-in-law, Penny Goergen (Charles' wife). Surviving siblings are Leo Goergen, Elizabeth Donhauser, Rita DeSoye (Bernie), Friar David Goergen MAfr.; and sisters-in-law, Marian Goergen (John), Rita Goergen (Paul) and Ann C.
