The Aiken County Board of Education has had a superintendent evaluation process in the past, but it was "certainly not the most effective one," said Board Chair Dr. Christine Sanders.
Current Superintendent Dr. Beth Everitt began work Jan. 2.
She met in closed session with the School Board Tuesday to talk about the development evaluation instrument for 2008-09.
Sanders said board members will have a special meeting on Tuesday, July 29, for another closed session to meet with Ken Childs, a Columbia attorney.
Childs deals exclusively with school districts, said Sanders, and the board "will definitely come to terms on what the evaluation is going to look like."
Once approved, the evaluation instrument will be made public, Sanders said.
In the meantime, the School Board came out of executive session Tuesday with a motion.
Approved unanimously by the six trustees present, the motion calls for Sanders and Vice Chair Rosemary English to work on a letter of commendation to Everitt and express the members' appreciation of her job performance during the past seven months.
The board members have asked Everitt to give a brief synopsis during an August meeting of the district's activities and program efforts since her tenure began.
