A Beech Island man has been charged after an investigation into the possession of child pornography, according to a Wednesday press release from S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson.
Michael Ray Hopson, 57, is charged with six counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to jail records.
These charges are felony offenses, and Hopson faces up to 10 years in prison on each charge, according to a release.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, made the arrest Wednesday, the release states.
Investigators with the attorney general’s office assisted with the investigation.
The case will be prosecuted by the attorney general's office.
In the release, Wilson stressed all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
