An Aiken woman has been charged with five counts of unlawful conduct toward a child by investigators with the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
Makita Rainey, 31, previously worked at a childcare facility on Summerwood Way in Aiken, listed as the Sunshine House Daycare facility in Rainey's arrest warrant. Rainey was employed at the facility as a classroom teacher.
On Monday, April 22, staff at the facility reported to police there was a "possible abusive situation" at the facility involving Rainey and several 1-year-old children, according to the press release.
An investigation allegedly revealed video footage of Rainey striking a child in the face with an open hand, pushing children and tossing them onto mats on the floor.
The staff asked Rainey to leave the facility after observing her behavior on the video footage.
Rainey was booked to the Aiken County detention center following the investigation. She is currently awaiting a bond hearing.
