By KAREN DAILYStaff writerA Graniteville man is being sought on allegations he attacked a driver earlier this week during a carjacking in North Augusta.Joseph E. Rowe, 24, of Gregg Street in Graniteville will be charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, carjacking and two counts of financial transaction card theft.About 4:45 a.m., the suspect asked the victim for a ride at a Bank of America automated teller machine outside a Kangaroo Express at Highway 25 and Belvedere – Clearwater Road in North Augusta.The victim is identified as Joseph S. Roberts, 51, of the 100 block of Windy Mill Drive in North Augusta.The victim drove Rowe to a synagogue, Beth Shalom, on Atomic Road in North Augusta, said Lt. Michael Frank, an agency spokesperson. As the driver prepared to drop off the man, the passenger attacked the victim, pushed him out of the truck and then drove away, Frank said. Later the same day, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office recovered that stolen 1994 Ford Ranger pickup truck at Dugas and Harrison Streets in Augusta, which had been used by another man charging items on the victim’s stolen credit cards, officials said. Surveillance video shows another man using the victim’s stolen credit cards at four different convenience and grocery stores in Richmond County and then leaving in the victim’s stolen pickup, Frank said.The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday arrested Terry L. Hanna, 41, of the 600 block of Grant Avenue in North Augusta on allegations he used the stolen credit cards, Frank said.“We don’t know the connection between the two, other than they were acquaintances,” Frank said.The surveillance video shows the 41-year-old using or attempting to use the stolen credit cards and then getting into the stolen truck, but the driver could not be identified on the video.Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Joseph Rowe is asked to contact Investigator Charles Cain at the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office: (800) 922-9709.
