Zonnie James Williams

Mr. Zonnie James Williams, 62, of 2276 Edgefield Highway, South Carolina, departed this life on Thursday, May 8, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Paine College in the Gilbert/Lambuth Memorial Chapel, 1235 15th St., Augusta, Ga., 30904, with the Rev. Jimmy Cue officiating. Interment will follow at Bland Baptist Church, 86 Bland Baptist Road, Johnston, S.C., 29832.
He was a deacon at Bland Baptist Church in Johnston. He was a graduate of W.E. Parker High School and Augusta Technical College. A Vietnam veteran, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from Oct. 29, 1965, and was honorably discharged on Oct. 28, 1968. During his service he received a National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He was employed as a head operator at the Kimberly Clark Corporation in Beech Island until his retirement in April of 2002. Mr. Williams was also a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge in Aiken, the American Legion in Johnston/Aiken, the Elks Lodge and Club 66 of Aiken.
Mr. Williams was the son of the late Jesse J. Williams and Helen Williams of North Augusta. He was married to the late Daisy R. Williams. Survivors include his three children, Miesai Williams of Atlanta, Ga.; Marcus (Tamika) Williams of Douglasville, Ga., and Tameka (Moken) Karanja of Columbia; four grandchildren, Gregory, Quintell, Micheal and Elon Williams; six sisters, Diane (Calvin) Warren of North Augusta, Evonne Fowler of Villa Rica, Ga., Gloria Allen of Aiken, Sylvia Minnick of Austell, Ga., Deborah Heller of North Augusta, and Pamela Williams of Alameda, Calif.; his mother-in-law, Daisy Robinson of Aiken; four sisters-in-law, Lola (J.D.) Butler of Johnston, Grace (Eddie) Garvin of Jamaica, N.Y., Perlie Robinson of Aiken, and Mary Jackson of Aiken; and two brothers-in-law, Cleo (Mary Lee) Robinson and Pervis Robinson of Aiken.
Mr. Williams will lie in state at the Gilbert/Lambuth Chapel from noon until the hour of service. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home, 126 Fairfield St., Aiken.
