James Calvin Smith

James Calvin Smith, 72, beloved husband of Joan C. "Peggy" Smith, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Pepper Hill Nursing Home.
A native of East Orange, N.J., Mr. Smith was a son of the late Frederick Calvin and Marjorie Inness Smith. He attended the University of Kentucky and served in the National Guard. Mr. Smith moved to Aiken in 1971 from Denville, N.J., and retired as vice president of Allied General Nuclear Services in Barnwell. After his retirement, he worked with SAIC.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Peggy, include two daughters, Dale Smith Blackwell and Deborah Smith (Steve) Glisson of Aiken; a son, Bruce Frederick (Karen) Smith of Dawsonville, Ga.; five grandchildren, Kandace R. (Steven) Hite, Amber Chase, Jacob Smith, Cara Glisson and Jeffrey Glisson; a great-grandson, Ryker Lee Hite; a sister, Cindy Wolstromer of River Edge, N.J.; and a brother, Marty Smith of Susquehanna, Pa.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Road, Aiken, S.C., with the Rev. Martha Ebel officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
