Security Federal relocates in Clearwater

CLEARWATER -- Branch manager Gail Dotson of the Security Federal Bank in Clearwater can still remember when the bank first opened 40 years ago.
One of the bank's original employees, Dotson has stayed on with the branch over the years since the day it celebrated its grand opening in April 1968.
Now Dotson is preparing for another grand opening in April. The Clearwater branch relocated from the Midland Valley Shopping Center on Monday and is now farther down the street at 4568 Jefferson Davis Highway.
The bank will hold its official grand opening ceremony on April 2 at 4 p.m. There will be guest speakers at the event as well as refreshments. The public is invited to attend.
Dotson said she has worked many of the positions at Security Federal, including a position as a bookkeeper and a customer service representative.
She has served as branch manager for the past 20 years. Of all the changes that she's seen, the consistent growth of the Clearwater area as well as advances in technology at the bank are what stick out the most, Dotson said.
When the bank first opened, there were only three employees. Most of the work was done by hand, she said. Now, said Dotson, everything is computerized. Though it is a new, larger location, customers can still expect the same friendly faces as with the original store, as a billboard in front of the bank states.
"It's a good place to work," Dotson said. "We have a good group of people that work together."
A quality that most people recognize about the Clearwater Security Federal, Dotson said, is the personalized customer service that its staff provides.
"We know most of the customers that come through that door; we're all like family," she said.
Security Federal Bank was founded in Aiken in 1922. Along with the Clearwater branch, the bank has local locations in Aiken, Langley, Wagener and Graniteville. The Southside branch operates seven days a week.
