The San Diego alternative rock band brings its "Up in Arms" tour to Aiken with a show at 7:30 p.m. April 2 at the Convocation Center, with doors opening one hour prior to the show. The tour of Southern and Midwestern college towns launches this week in San Antonio, in support of the band's sixth studio album "Oh! Gravity."
The CD was released on Dec. 26, 2006, debuting at No. 18 on the Billboard 200 chart in its first week and went on to reach No. 1 in online sales in the iTunes Music Store. Fans of the MTV reality show "Life of Ryan," starring skateboard pro Ryan Sheckler, will recognize the "Oh! Gravity" title track as the show's theme song.
Some proceeds from the current tour benefit the charity To Write Love On Her Arms, an organization offering aid and hope to sufferers of depression and its manifestations, including substance abuse, self-abuse and suicidal tendencies. More information on the Florida-based organization is available online at its website, www.twloha.com, and its MySpace page, www.myspace.com/towriteloveonherarms.
Tickets for the Switchfoot concert are $25 and $20, and are on sale now at the USC Aiken Convocation Center box office, by phone at (866) 722-8877, and online at www.uscatix.com. Students with valid ID are eligible for a $3 discount on tickets. Seating is assigned, and still and video cameras are prohibited.
