Master Gardeners shape bell garden

The Master Gardeners at Banksia and the Aiken Camellia Society helped beautify the already historic grounds of the Aiken County Historical Museum Wednesday by planting a garden.
The Camellia Society donated 18 camellias that have been planted along the wall, and the Master Gardeners were taking care of "complimentary plants" like Japanese maples and service berries, said Master Gardener George Brubaker.
The garden coming to fruition Wednesday is known as the bell garden because it curves around the Aiken County Courthouse bell.
"We're starting from scratch," said Master Gardener Bill Hayes. "This is such a great property. A number of the Master Gardeners are volunteers. We just want to give back to the community."
The garden is expected to be finished in just a few days.
The Master Gardeners at Banksia also helped plant the flower beds of colorful pansies and roses at the entrance of the museum and plan to work on a garden near the portico.
"This is going to look really nice," Hayes said. "We are also going to have a bench near the bell."
