S.C. court: 18-year-olds should be allowed to have handguns
COLUMBIA (AP) -- The state Supreme Court has ruled that people as young as 18 can legally possess handguns in South Carolina.
The unanimous ruling released Monday mirrors a new state law allowing individuals to sell handguns to anyone 18 or over.
According to the ruling, South Carolina's ban on hand gun possession by those 18-to 20-years violated the state constitution. The court's decision upholds a lower court ruling that threw out the indictment of a Clover man.
Berry Bolin, then 19, was indicted on several charges including murder, assault and battery with intent to kill and possession of a firearm during commission of a violent offense.
