Apparently head coach Charlie Weis isn't the only figure who has the Notre Dame football faithful up in arms. According to the Associated Press, a university source said that quarterback Jimmy Clausen is nursing a black eye after getting punched outside a South Bend bar Sunday morning.
Clausen was at the establishment with his family and girlfriend about 2 a.m. after his team's double overtime loss to Connecticut. The group was leaving after exchanging words with some of the bar patrons, but when Clausen went back in to retieve the purse that his girlfriend left behind, someone followed him outside and punched him. According to the source, Clausen did not fight back.

The Birmingham News is calling on Notre Dame to gauge Alabama coach Nick Saban's interest in the coaching position that most media outlets believe will open up in the next week or so with the firing of Charlie Weis. The publication believes that Saban, who is considered to be one of the best college football coaches in America, could be interested because he is Catholic and has never been hesitant to make a move. Saban, though, has repeatedly stated that he is not looking to make another move anytime soon.

Maryland head coach Ralph Friedgen has been seated not-so-comfortably on the hot seat for a few years now, and after another terrible season there are plenty of rumors floating on the internet that the coach is on his way out.
According to the Baltimore Sun, though, a $4 million buyout in Friedgen's contract may be an obsticle that will keep the school from sending Friedgen on his way. Board of Regenst member Tom McMilen told The Sun that paying a coach $4 million dollars and then dishing out more money to bring in a new leader would be financially irresponsible. Another prominent former Terrapin, Len Elmore, has also spoken out against making a move.

Former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher hasn't completely shut the door on the possibility of returning to the NFL sidelines as the Buffalo Bills' head coach. According to Yahoo!Sports, the Bills are ready to dish out $10 million a season for the right coach. If the Bills are willing to wait on Cowher, who apparently wants to see if others jobs come up first, Cowher could be interested.
According to the Associated Press, former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan may be another candidate.

The Braves appear to be one of a number of teams expressing interest in Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz. According to Foxsports.com, the Braves, Cardinals and Giants have expressed interest in the American League All-Star. One major league source, though, has indicated that Texas is not anxious to move Cruz because of his productivity and his reasonable salary.
