Fragrance, experience reasons to purchase real tree

WINDSOR -- There's nothing more soothing and satisfying to the olfactory nerve than the refreshing scent of a real Christmas tree.

A freshly cut Christmas tree decorated with ornaments is a time-honored tradition enjoyed by families throughout the world.

Sandy Wohlers and Scott Urban's Sweet Water Tree Farm is helping families continue their tradition in an economically friendly way.

Sweet Water Tree Farm offers a variety of Christmas trees.

The tree farm offers consumers the opportunity to purchase Fraser firs and Scotch pines that are snow-fresh guaranteed, having come to the farm packed in snow; some of the trees were cut as recently as last Monday, said Wohlers. The farm also has Douglas firs.

For those who wish to cut their own trees, they can choose from Carolina sapphires, a few small red cedars and Virginia pines that are growing on the farm in a natural environment.

They can cut the Virginia pines up to 15 feet for $35.99, said Wohlers.

"The you-cut trees haven't been sprayed with pesticides or herbicides and don't have artificial coloring," said Wohlers.

The farm has Christmas wreaths and a playhouse for children who can celebrate the holiday season while their parents select a tree. The farm also offers hay rides on the weekend.

For many families, Christmas wouldn't be the same experience if they were to forego the tradition of purchasing a real Christmas tree.

"We like the smell of a real Christmas tree and like the fact that they are all different," said Mary Flora, who was accompanied by her husband and two daughters as they picked out a Fraser fir.

"They're different shapes every year, and it's a lot of fun to come out to the farm and select a tree. My older daughter is in college and we have to pick out the tree this weekend."

Sweet Water Tree Farm is located at 931 State Park Road, Windsor. For more information, call 617-9374 or 641-1018.
