Pets may be stars through benefit

Nandina Home & Design is celebrating the dog and cat days of Christmas to benefit a good cause.

The downtown furniture showroom and design service is searching for its next pet star for an upcoming ad campaign while celebrating the holidays and teaming up with the Aiken Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to raise money for the nonprofit agency.

Nandina invites everyone to bring their pet by through Saturday for a complimentary holiday photograph, which can then be framed in an original ornament or picture frame with proceeds going to the SPCA. All pictures will be automatically entered in the pet photo contest.

"After consulting with Mac, our official Nandina dog, he is willing to share the limelight since it will benefit such a worthy cause as the Aiken SPCA," joked Susan Victor, co-owner of Nandina Home Design. "Photograph ornaments are a great keepsake. It's great to cross some names off your shopping list while giving back to an organization that does such a fine service for our community."

On Thursday, Nandina will be open special evening hours from 6 to 9 p.m. with 10 percent of all sales benefitting the SPCA.

"This time of year, we really like to give back," said Nandina designer Maria Huynh. "We've had a lot of fun taking pictures of animals."

Dogs should be on a leash and cats in a carrier.

Nandina is located at 158 Laurens Street S.W. Regular business hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
