Three adults and three children were able to escape a mobile home fire without injury Monday; however, Aiken Public Safety firefighters said the residence was destroyed.

Around 12:29 p.m, one of the victims at the residence called 911 to report that her couch had caught on fire and the residence was full of smoke.

Sgt. Jake Mahoney said firefighters arrived at the Dallas Circle home just three minutes later, but had already found flames shooting from the residence and heavy smoke in the home.

The children are ages 4, 2 and 4 months, Mahoney said.

At press time, fire investigation could not say with certainty what started the blaze; however, Mahoney said the fire originated in the living room.

"It is under investigation," he added.

The fire did not threaten any neighboring residences.

"The occupant's SUV that was parked adjacent to the home suffered some damage," he said.

Aiken Public Safety officers sent 15 firefighters to fight the fire, which they were able to extinguish quickly, Mahoney said. He added there was already a great deal of damage when crews arrived.
