Sheriff's Office investigating armed robbery

Aiken County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating an armed robbery in Williston that occurred early Thursday while the store's owner was inside alone, officials said.

The victim, Ricky Mundy, 60, who owns Mundy's Marine Sales, said a masked gunman entered his Charleston Highway business through the front door, carrying a sawed-off double barrel shotgun around 6:30 a.m.

The gunman first reached through a window and turned off the lights, said Capt. Troy Elwell, a Sheriff's Office spokesman.

He then told the victim to stand up, turn around, strip down to his underwear and throw his clothes on the floor, Elwell said.

After the victim complied with the robber's demands, the suspect took the victim's wallet, money, keys and cell phone and then fled from the area, police said.

During the follow-up investigation, Mundy said he noticed it appeared as if someone had been in his business before he arrived.

He said it looked as if someone had gone through papers.

The Aiken Bloodhound Tracking Team was notified and searched for the man, but he was not located.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Aiken County Sheriff's Office at (800) 922-9709.

Individuals also should call CrimeStoppers of the Midlands at (888) CRIME-SC.

Callers can remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of between $50 and $1,000.
