Bulldogs advance to round 2
PETTICOAT JUNCTION -- The Silver Bluff Bulldogs were able to cruise to the second round of the Class 2A playoffs with a convincing 35-7 win over the Bishop England Bishops on Friday night.
Big plays were key for the Bulldogs, as they took an early lead on a 53-yard touchdown run by Robert Green on their second play of the game and never looked back. A strong defense - led by Demarcus Lawrence and Hikeem Dixon with six tackles each - kept the Bishops off the scoreboard until the last minute of the game.
The Bulldogs rushed for more than 300 yards and were led by running back Cordrea Tankersley, who had seven carries for 154 yards and two touchdowns. The highlight of the night for Tankersley was a 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
Green also had 100 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns. Silver Bluff quarterback Austin Pollack was 2-of-3 passing on the night for 19 yards.
Bishop England was held to only 101 yards in the game. Thomas Grimsley had the lone touchdown of the night for Bishop England on a 3-yard run up the middle.
The Bulldogs will look to build on their six-game winning streak and continue their trek through the playoffs next week when they host Cheraw.
