The Aiken SPCA is looking for pet owners who have adopted from the shelter to be featured in its 2009 Second Chances calendar.

The calendar project, which began in 2006, will again celebrate the second chances adopted pets receive when they find their forever homes.

"This is a great way for folks who have adopted from the SPCA in the past to show off their animals," said Executive Director Gary Willoughby. "There is a really nice photo and a story with each month. It is another reminder of the great things that happen when people adopt pets."

All proceeds from the calendar sales will go back to the SPCA to help fund its low-cost spay and neuter program and other educational programs.

Willoughby said the calendars sold out last year.

Those chosen to be in the calendar will be photographed with their pet by Shelly Schmidt and will receive a free calendar.

"There is nothing more rewarding in our work than to hear the great stories from the wonderful people who have adopted pets from the SPCA," Willoughby said. "Seeing the photos and hearing the stories help to remind us of the big impact that our pets have on our lives. It also reaffirms the importance of a community supported animal welfare agency in a great community like Aiken."

Those who are interested in being considered for the calendar can pick up an application at the Aiken SPCA, 401 Wire Road, at the Aiken SPCA Thrift Shop or online at www.aikenspca.org. All entries must be received no later than Sept. 1.
