Deputies arrested for misconduct

ANDERSON (AP) -- Two Anderson County sheriff's deputies who worked as school resource officers have been fired after they were arrested and charged with misconduct in the office.

The State Law Enforcement Division said Lawyer Delewis Scott II and Derrick Lamont Rich were arrested Friday and charged with falsifying time sheets for themselves and getting several hundred dollars extra pay while working as officers at schools in Anderson School District 5.

Anderson County sheriff's spokeswoman Susann Griffin said both men were fired Friday and released from jail on $6,000 personal recognizance bonds. It was not immediately clear if the men had attorneys.

No listing could be found for Rich, and a phone message left at Scott's house was not immediately returned.

Police looking for missing 2-year-old

LORIS (AP) -- An Amber Alert has been issued for a missing 2-year-old South Carolina girl and her mother believed to be headed toward North Carolina. The State Law Enforcement Division says authorities are searching Saturday for Namia Vaught.

The girl and her mother, 29-year-old Evette Nannette Vaught, were last seen on Highway 701 toward North Carolina from Loris.

Officials said they have identified 25-year-old Marco Vaught as the suspect. All three may be traveling in a white four-door Chrysler Sebring with a South Carolina dealer tag on the back.

Authorities say the girl and her mother may be in extreme danger.

Coroner arrested, violated probation

ROCK HILL -- York County Coroner Doug McKown has been charged with violating the terms of his probation.

Police in Lincoln County, N.C., said the 39-year-old McKown was charged with drinking and driving Thursday night. Police also said his passenger was smoking crack. The (Rock Hill) Herald reported Friday that McKown denies the charges and said he went to North Carolina to give a friend who had too much to drink a ride home. McKown was sentenced to a year probation in May after being convicted of illegally possessing prescription medication. He was acquitted of drug charges, allowing him to be reinstated as coroner.
