Children can climb, sit and play in various service vehicles today at the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center.
The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department is holding its sixth annual Touch-a-Truck Day at the activities center, 1700 Whiskey Road.
The event is from 9 to 11 a.m. near the front parking lot.
This free event is an informal chance for children to climb, sit and play in and on various service vehicles, which they normally would not be able to do.
A variety of vehicles will be at Touch-a-Truck Day for children to enjoy.
There will be a bulldozer, bucket truck, case loader, dump truck, military vehicles, an ambulance and a fire truck. The vehicles will be parked in a roped-off area and open for the children to get in and play on.
"Rusty" from the Augusta Colts will be on hand to greet children and take pictures.
RSC Equipment Rental is sponsoring the event.
Several door prize drawings will be held, and there will be pony rides for the children.
Children should wear their bathing suits and bring a towel for a soaking by the Aiken Department of Public Safety near the end of the event. Public Safety will hook up to a fire hydrant for a soaking in the field on Price Avenue.
