Local restaurants call it their busiest day of the year. Its also known as Mothers Day.
Eateries around Aiken are busy with preparations and gearing themselves up for Sunday, when they expect crowds of people to sit down to a meal in honor of a mother.
Many places are extending their hours, scheduling extra staff and offering special menu items and deals.
Luis Cobos, general manager at Shoneys, said Mothers Day helps keep the restaurant in the black.
"Its the day we all leave happy," he said. "But our mothers and wives hate it because were here."
Shoneys will open their doors at 6 a.m. and will close at 11 p.m. In addition to the menu, there will be a buffet to choose from.
Staff at Fatz Cafe has prepared by pulling out sales records from the past several years Mother's Days and going over those, said Service Manager Dan Rhodes.
By looking at the records, the restaurant has been able to estimate how much food to prepare, how many staff to work the front and back of the house and so on, he added.
"I feel very confident we're ready for Sunday," Rhodes said.
Fatz Cafe usually closes at 9 p.m., but will stay open an hour later Sunday for later diners.
"Our busiest period will be right after church services," Rhodes said.
Red Lobster Culinary Manager Bertha Turner said Thursday she had finished ordered many pounds of fresh fish for Sunday. The restaurant's food prep will start tonight, she added.
"We have extra people scheduled. We want to make sure we have everything on hand," Turner said. "We expect to have about 1,300 guests Sunday."
