Aiken County Public Schools has extended its nutrition services and will be feeding children throughout the summer months.
The Seamless Summer Program will provide free meals to all children and students 18 years old and younger at five designated sites located throughout the county for the fourth consecutive year.
“Many children in our Aiken County community depend on the meals we provide during the school year, and many would possibly not have access to nutritious meals during the summer months,” said Karen Johnson, school food service director. “This program is about providing nutritious meals to as many children as possible.”
Breakfast and lunch are available at Kennedy Middle School, North Aiken Elementary School, North Augusta Middle School, Warrenville Elementary School and Ridge Spring-Monetta Middle/High School from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from noon to 1 p.m., respectively, each week on Monday through Thursday.
The program will continue through Aug. 16 at Ridge Spring-Monetta Middle/High.
Seamless Summer Program locations at Kennedy Middle, North Aiken Elementary and North Augusta Middle will remain open through Aug. 9.
The program’s Warrenville Elementary location will be open through Aug. 3.
All sites will be closed for the Fourth of July holiday.
A parent or guardian must accompany elementary and middle school-aged children. Any adult can eat at a cost of $2.25 for breakfast and $3.75 for lunch.
“The USDA Seamless Summer Program is just a terrific program,” Johnson said. “It is enabling our Food Service Department to feed children healthy, nutritious meals throughout the summer months at no cost to them.”
