CHAPLAIN’S CORNER: The ability to laugh at ourselves

  • Tuesday, September 2, 2014

A finalist in the Jeopardy Teachers’ Tournament shared that he tried out for a basketball walk-on slot while a student at Duke University.

He recalled that, although he played poorly, he shook Coach K’s hand after the tryout.

A reporter later asked the coach about the session, and he replied that it went well because the worst player out there came up and shook his hand when it ended. This humorous account brought healthy laughter and also respect for this talented math teacher.

“A time to weep and a time to laugh; A time to mourn and a time to dance” (Ecclesiastes 3:4).
