Race to benefit 9/11 Memorial and Museum

The Third Annual Patriot’s Day Run returns to the Greeneway on Sept. 6.


The 5 and 10K races benefit the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, and are to remember those lost on the events of Sept. 11, 2001.


“To each of us in the service it signifies why we joined and still serve,” Holly Ziegler, director of the Patriot Day Run, said. “The public significance is a reminder that 9/11 changed the world as we knew it. This was a military member venture in order to raise funds primarily for the cause that led to our joining the service.”


There are two distances of the race, a 5K and a 10K, to cater to runners or walkers of varying skills.


“The 10k gets more running attention while the 5K attracts avid walkers,” Ziegler said. “On average we have between 50-75 runners. We are hoping for even more than that.”


The proceeds from the race, which are generally $1,200 to $1,500, go toward the operations of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.


The cost of the 5K race is $25, with a $2.50 sign-up fee, the 10K is $30 with the $2.50 charge. The 10K will begin at 8 a.m., with the 5K beginning 10 minutes later at 8:10 a.m.

The race will begin at Riverview Park Activities Center, located at 100 Riverview Drive, at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
