Nine movies – some classic, some new – are being shown across three digital movie screens this weekend at the Monetta Drive-In Theatre.
From Friday to Sunday, the theater – also known as The Big Mo – will celebrate its 16th annual Labor Day Weekend Triple Feature Extravaganza.
The theater has three fields to choose from: the Main Field, Screen Two and Screen Three.
On the Main Field will be “Maleficent,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Transformers: Age of Extinction.”
On Screen Two will be “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” and “Amazing Spiderman 2.”
These six are considered the “six biggest movies of the summer,” according to The Big Mo's website.
Showing on Screen Three will be 1973's “American Graffiti,” 1981's “Raiders of Lost Ark” and 1975's “Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
Theater owners Lisa and Richard Boaz have always wanted to show these films, according to Lisa.
One reason they can now show them is because of their recent switch to digital projectors.
Until last year, they had been using 35 mm film equipment.
This weekend event has been going on every year since the Boazes opened the theater, Lisa said.
All movies will start at dusk or around 8:15 p.m.
Gates open at 6:45 p.m.
Admission price is $8 for ages 12 and older, $4 for ages 4 to 11 and free for ages 3 and younger.
Only cash is accepted at the ticket booth.
Switching fields is prohibited.
“If you want to watch movies on different fields, you must purchase another ticket at intermission,” as stated on The Big Mo's website.
Those who dress up in the style of any of the retro movies will receive a free small popcorn.
“Anything to make it more fun,” Lisa said.
The Big Mo is at 5822 Columbia Highway North, Monetta.
