“Doctor Who” – Regeneration happens. And so it is that Peter Capaldi finally gets the keys to the TARDIS this week. Capaldi, a 56-year-old Scottish actor and lifelong “Who” fan, becomes the 12th Time Lord in the wildly popular franchise and he appears poised to battle Cybermen, Daleks and any other heinous villains that dare come his way. The feature-length season opener, “Deep Breath,” promises a “pulse-racing adventure through Victorian London.” We’re so ready. 8 p.m. Saturday, BBC America.
SUNDAY: Uh oh. On “The Last Ship,” they’re asking for volunteers to participate in human trials of Rachel’s (Rhona Mitra) vaccine and the resulting effects could be nightmarish. 9 p.m., TNT.
SUNDAY: It’s the next-to-last episode of “True Blood” and we’re still wondering if peace will ever come to the beleaguered residents of Bon Temps. Um, probably not tonight. 9 p.m., HBO.
MONDAY: “Dora and Friends: Into the City” is a spinoff of the popular children’s show. It follows Dora, now 10 years old, and a group of new pals as they embark on adventures in a pan-Latino metropolis by the sea. 8 p.m., Nickelodeon.
MONDAY: The last time we saw “Dallas,” Southfork was ablaze. The sizzling drama returns tonight and the Ewings, naturally, are demanding answers about the fire that put their family ranch in peril. 9 p.m., TNT.
TUESDAY: Pulling a rabbit from a hat is, well, old hat. “Wizard Wars” instead challenges teams of magicians to create amazing, impromptu illusions with an array of random objects, including Spam and Super Soakers. 10 p.m., Syfy.
TUESDAY: Think of “K. Michelle: Rebellious Soul – The Musical” as a hip hopera. Directed by Idris Elba, it’s a theatrical presentation of the latest album by the R&B artist and reality TV star. 10 p.m., VH1.
WEDNESDAY: On the summer finale of “Suits,” Harvey (Gabriel Macht) and Jessica (Gina Torres) attempt to come to the rescue and protect the firm from poachers. Let’s hope they’ve got their capes on tight. 9 p.m., USA.
THURSDAY: Break out the doughnuts and Duff beer and hunker down for an epic marathon of “The Simpsons.” It’s all 25 seasons (522 episodes) over 12 days. Aye, caramba! 10 a.m., FXX.
THURSDAY: “Rectify,” wraps up its exceptional second season with Daniel (Aden Young) weighing his options regarding a new trial and questioning lawyer Jon Stern’s (Luke Kirby) advice. 9 p.m., Sundance.
FRIDAY: In Season 4 of “Bering Sea Gold,” ambitious treasure hunters continue to brave frigid temperatures and brutal conditions – all as we watch from the warm comfort of our couches. 9 p.m., Discovery.
SATURDAY: Who’s the next Gabby Douglas? Current and future stars will be on display during the USA Gymnastics Championships in Pittsburgh, where they’ll vie for spots at the World Championships in October and hone their skills for the 2016 Olympics. 8 p.m., NBC.
