COLUMBIA ó South Carolina House Speaker Bobby Harrell says the state grand juryís investigation into ethics allegations against him has ended with no indictments.
Harrell said in a release Saturday that Attorney General Alan Wilson removed himself from the case and passed responsibility to David Pascoe, the chief prosecutor for Calhoun, Dorchester and Orangeburg counties.
Harrell says Wilson made the move in June, despite the state Supreme Court ruling days earlier that he had authority to investigate the speaker and empanel the state grand jury. Harrell says the attorney generalís office didnít notify his attorney until July 29.
Harrell sent out a release after informing members of the House Republican Caucus during their annual conference.
Wilson spokesman Mark Powell said he canít comment because the Supreme Court called for secrecy.
