LETTER: Grace UMC grateful after 1983 fire

  • Tuesday, August 12, 2014

It was heart-warming to read the long history of Grace United Methodist Church prominently featured on the Sweet Tea Trolley tour.

One factual correction needs to be made. After the fire on Sunday, July 17, 1983, the following Sunday, and each Sunday thereafter for 27 months, worship was held in Grace’s own Family Center. A number of other churches in the community made generous offers of assistance to Grace in its misfortune, including a special offering from Our Lady of Peace for approximately $1,100, which Father Sam Miglarese presented to Grace in behalf of his parishioners. Grace will forever be grateful for the wide community support.
