BEAUFORT (AP) — High tech is coming to the old yellow school bus, at least in Beaufort County.
The Beaufort Gazette reports that when school begins next week, all 127 buses in the county fleet will be equipped with a GPS tracking system called Zonar. The system, among other things, will let parents know if a bus is running late.
Gary Bradley, the general manager of Durham School Services which operates the buses, said the system will allow the district to more efficiently track buses and their cost of operation. The system shows where buses are, where they stop and for how long and their daily mileage.
The GPS system will also be connected to a system that will send alerts to parents and students showing if a bus is delayed.
