A homeless man was placed on trespass notice after creating a disturbance at the Salvation Army shelter and striking the manager, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

The incident happened at about 1 p.m. Wednesday at the shelter on Park Avenue, according to an incident report.

The 51-year-old suspect was reportedly intoxicated when he came into the shelter for food.

The suspect got belligerent with shelter staff, police said.

He became physical when asked by the manager to leave, and struck the manager in the arm, the report stated.

The manager said he grabbed his cane to defend himself, and the suspect left, the report stated.

The suspect allegedly kicked a door while exiting the building, causing damage to the door.
