A Graniteville woman was charged with her fourth shoplifting attempt after she and a man tried to take more than $600 in merchandise from a store in the Aiken Mall, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Crystal Grey, 32, was placed in the Aiken County detention center, where she remained Wednesday afternoon.

Grey and a man were seen selecting clothing items in Belk and placing them into a shopping cart, according to an incident report.

Grey then began placing items into a suitcase she got from the luggage section of the store while the man served as a lookout, police said.

A store employee said he was unable to make contact with the suspects until they had exited the store, police said.

He was able to grab Grey’s arm, but the male suspect fled in a vehicle, leaving Grey at the scene with the stolen merchandise, which was valued at $653, according to the report.

Grey did not provide police with any information on the male suspect other than his name, the report said.
