What is the thinking regarding the sales tax increase when our pitiful mall has very few places to buy goods and therefore produce more money?
People go to Augusta, where there is a real mall, and give the state of Georgia their tax money. Columbia has a lovely mall, but that does not help Aiken County.
An increase in the gas tax hurts the only means of transport to work for the working poor, as there is little if any, public transportation.
The answer is obvious to me; if you insist that a sales tax is the way to go as it does include visitors as well as residents, then beef up the places to shop. Our representatives are putting the cart before the horse.
