Greenville gay couples ask for marriage licenses

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Six same-sex couples are going to ask the Greenville County Probate Court for marriage licenses.

The couples expect to be turned down Wednesday morning because South Carolina's ban on gay marriage still stands.

The couples are part of Campaign for Southern Equality's "We Do" campaign, where supporters of gay marriage get together for a rally, and then request marriage licenses they know will be turned down. This is the third event in Greenville County, and similar events have been held in other Southern states.

The Greenville event happens two days after the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Virginia's ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional.

South Carolina is in that judicial circuit, but the state plan to continue fighting a lawsuit to overturn the state's gay marriage ban.

SC man's scam involved nude photos, broken church windows

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina authorities say a South Carolina man posed as a Charlotte pastor and a State Bureau of Investigation agent to scam people out of money in a scheme involving nude pictures and supposedly broken church windows.

Attorney General Roy Cooper said 23-year-old Justin Moore of Greenwood was arrested Monday.

Cooper says the scam started with a woman sending the victims nude photos. Moore would then call them saying he was the pastor father of the underage woman and when he confronted her, she threw her phone, shattering a church window.

Cooper says Moore demanded money for repairs, calling back as an SBI agent to collect the payment.

Moore is awaiting extradition. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer. Cooper says others helped Moore and additional arrests are possible.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. There was no word on his condition. His name has not been released.

A deputy and the person driving the third vehicle were taken to a hospital for injuries that did not appear to be serious.
