The Aiken County School Board will ask voters in November to support a one-cent sales tax hike, and the Aiken County Tea Party wants to talk with them about just that.
The meeting will be held at the Homeowners Association of Chukker Creek today at 6:30 p.m.
The School Board wants to use most of the potential revenue for facility needs. Tea Party member Dr. Mike Vasovski attended a Board meeting last month. He heard the Board trustees' interest in speaking to community groups and talked with trustee Keith Liner.
As Vasovski related later, “You (Liner) expressed an interest to talk to groups, and we would like to hear what you've got to say.”
In an interview, Liner said he's excited about the Tea Party's invitation.
“This gives us the opportunity to share the facts on capital improvement funding,” Liner said. “We're open to do this with whoever wants us to speak to them.”
The Homeowners Association office is located just past Chukker Creek Elementary School.
