One person died after a head-on collision between two cars on Whiskey Road on Wednesday, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Sharon Harding, 70, was pronounced dead at Aiken Regional Medical Centers, according to Aiken County Deputy Coroner Darryl Ables.

Aiken Public Safety responded to a collision near Chick-fil-A on Whiskey Road just after 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

A 2009 Honda Accord struck a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup head-on, according to Detective Jeremy Hembree, a spokesperson for Aiken Public Safety.

Sharon Harding was the restrained passenger in the Honda, which was driven by her husband, Robert Harding, Ables said. The Hardings were traveling south on Whiskey Road when Robert Harding crossed over the center line into the oncoming lane, striking the pickup head-on.

Robert Harding was transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center in Augusta, where he remains in critical condition, Ables said. The driver of the pickup was transported to Aiken Regional Medical Centers with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Aiken Public Safety Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the collision. A portion of Whiskey Road was closed while crews cleaned up the scene, but it has since reopened.

This is the 11th fatal crash in Aiken County this year, and the third fatal accident in the City of Aiken this year.
