A man's burned, dead body was found on Friday morning at 814 Shawnee Drive.
The body was found in the back yard of the home, and due to the severity of the burns, the man could not be positively identified.
Sgt. Maurice Ransom, a spokesman for North Augusta Public Safety, said that the call was received at 10:41 a.m. on Friday morning. Public Safety was notified there was a body at the rear of the residence. The call came from the home owner's mother.
Ransom said that when officers arrived the body was already decomposing, in addition to the burns, thus a positive identification could not be made.
“We aren't saying it's the guy who lives there,” he said. “We are awaiting confirmation before we confirm who it is.”
The investigation is being led by the North Augusta Public Safety Criminal Unit, with assistance from The S.C. State Law Enforcement Division.
The body has been transported to Newberry for an autopsy. Pending results, Ransom said that more information could come on Monday.
