The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of $4,500 worth of wire from AGY.

A supervisor at the plant told officers on Thursday that $4,500 worth of wire had been stolen from the plant, according to a sheriff’s report. The supervisor said the 57-year-old suspect, who is listed in the report as being a resident of Shirleysburg, Pennsylvania, was the only person who worked with the wires who knew the value of the wire.

Supervisors have tried to make contact with the suspect at his hotel room but were unsuccessful, police said. The supervisor told officers no one saw the suspect steal the wire, but she had witness statements that the suspect was seen cutting the wires.

When asked by the supervisor, the suspect “admitted to cutting the wire, but never stole the wire,” the report stated.
