An Aiken man was injured in an attempted strong-armed robbery that occurred on Wednesday after giving the suspect a ride.

The incident happened near the intersection of Congaree Avenue and Vaucluse Road at about 7:30 p.m., according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

Responding deputies found the victim with several lacerations to his head and body.

The victim said he got into a scuffle with the suspect, who was trying to take a money box from the victim’s vehicle, police said.

The victim told deputies he picked up the unknown subject at the Shell Gas Station at Huntsman Drive and Hitchcock Parkway after he asked for a ride.

When the victim arrived to the location where the incident occurred, the suspect told him to stay in the truck, police said.

The suspect exited the vehicle, walked around to the driver’s side of the truck and demanded that the victim give him the money box, according to the report.

When the victim refused, the suspect pulled him out of the vehicle and began assaulting him, the report read.

The victim said he kicked the suspect in the head, and the assailant left the scene, according to the report.

The suspect threatened to shoot the victim and grabbed at his waistband, but never brandished a weapon, according to the report.

The suspect didn’t steal anything from the victim.
