A Graniteville woman detained for shoplifting allegedly had an infant child with her, as well as drug paraphernalia in her purse, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Crystal Brooke Randall, 27, of Breeze Hill Drive in Graniteville, was charged with shoplifting-second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia and placed in the Aiken County detention center.

The incident happened on June 10 at the Wal-Mart on Richland Avenue, according to an incident report. Randall allegedly tried to hide merchandise in her purse while 30-year-old James Sellers tried to hide items in his pants.

Sellers ran when confronted by police but was apprehended and brought back to the store, police said. Randall had a small infant with her, and the child was turned over to Randall’s mother, who was called to the scene.

In Randall’s purse, officers found two pipes, two syringes, a scale and multiple small plastic bags, police said. They also found a Visa check card belonging to another woman, which Randall said she found.

Sellers was charged with shoplifting and resisting arrest.
