A taxi driver was allegedly robbed at gunpoint after picking up two people at an Aiken motel, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers met with the victim about 1 a.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of Gregg Highway and Gregg Street in Graniteville, according to a sheriff’s report. The victim told officers he picked up the two suspects, a male and a female, at the Knights Inn in Aiken, and they said they needed to go to Kalmia Apartments in Graniteville.
The victim said that when he turned on to Hester Street, the male suspect fired a gunshot through the vehicle’s windshield and demanded all of the victim’s money, police said. The victim said the suspect stole his wallet and an undisclosed amount of cash, as well as his cellphone.
The suspects reportedly told the victim to leave, and as he was doing so, they got into a white vehicle that had pulled up behind the victim’s vehicle, the report stated. The victim went to Gregg Highway and Gregg Street, where he called 911.
