AIKEN 7 BELTON 1

Staff reports

With the score tied at one in the top of the sixth, Connor Howell and Brandon Miller hit back-to-back doubles to spark what would turn into a five-run inning and propel Aiken Post 26 to a 7-1 victory over Belton Post 51 in American Legion baseball action on Friday.

The run support came after Aikenís pitchers turned out a stellar performance on the mound. Luke Nichols, Miller, Jimmy Carver and Matt Abney combined to hold Belton to only two hits in the game. Abney (1-0) picked up his first victory of the season in one inning of relief work.

Carver and Miller were also big at the plate. Each of them finished the game with two hits. Cory Lucas also turned in a 2-for-4 performance.

The win moves Post 26 to a 7-2 overall record and 4-2 mark in district VII play as they head into a crucial matchup with Greenville, who also has only two losses on the season. The game is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Greenwood.
