South Aiken and University of Georgia grad Kevin Kisner finished his first round at a major strong, but he still posted a 5-over 75 at the U.S. Open on Thursday.

Starting his round on the back nine, Kisner bogeyed Nos. 12 and 15 before carding a double bogey on No. 16 to make the turn at 4-over. He had eight pars and a bogey on the front, the lone blemish coming at No. 2, and he finished his round with seven straight pars.

Kisner will hope to carry that measure of momentum into today’s second round, which he will begin at 12:41 p.m. off the first tee at Pinehurst’s No. 2 course.

Kisner and the rest of the field will be keeping an eye on the 36-hole cut line that eliminates all but the top 60 and ties. After one round, Kisner was three shots outside that mark.
