Planet Fitness is coming to Aiken, and soon.
The national gym chain will open a new location in the space between Target and Tuesday Morning in the Aiken Exchange Shopping Center on Whiskey Road.
The 17,821-square-foot gym should open its doors in mid-July, said Robert Strickland, the general manager.
Planet Fitness’ first location in Aiken will feature brand new equipment and will be “open and fully-staffed 24/7,” Strickland said.
Planet Fitness prides itself on being a “judgment-free zone” and works to foster a comfortable atmosphere free of competition or intimidation, said Michael Peters, area manager.
Strickland said that helps to cater to a wider range of members, including first-time gym users.
“We’re going to offer the cleanest, most user-friendly environment in Aiken,” Strickland said. “We’re going to make it comfortable for everybody.”
Peters said Planet Fitness staff will design workouts and provide equipment training for members at no additional cost.
The monthly membership fee is $10, and as part of a special pre-sale deal, the startup fee for a membership is $1 through July 11.
People can join by visiting the gym at 2531 Whiskey Road or by going online at www.planetfitness.com.
