A toddler was struck by a vehicle on Tuesday morning but didn’t appear to have sustained serious injuries, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

According to Lt. Jake Mahoney, a spokesman for Aiken Public Safety, the child was alert and conscious when first responders arrived. The child was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Mahoney said the child was behind the vehicle as it was backing up on Jehossee Drive. The child was knocked to the ground, and under the vehicle for a brief moment.

The child didn’t sustain any “obvious injuries,” Mahoney said.
