Aiken residents will get a look at more than just unique plants on tonight's episode of “Making It Grow!” gardening show.
The crew of SCETV's “Making It Grow!” visited Aiken's own Cold Creek Nurseries last month to film a segment of the show, which will be featured on the local education channel today starting at 7 p.m.
“We're absolutely excited, and it's such a great opportunity to be featured on the 'Making It Grow!' show,” Michaela Berley, marketing coordinator with Cold Creek, said. “This show reaches places like Georgia and North Carolina, and we're just getting excited because the exposure goes beyond the Aiken area.”
“Making It Grow!” features local attractions and nurseries in a 40-episode program throughout the year. Experts are live in studio to answer caller's questions ranging from what kind of plant is growing in their yard to how to grow a garden.
“A lot of it is educating people and letting them know what resources are available,” Amanda McNulty, a Clemson University extension agent who serves as the show's host, told Aiken Standard.
The show also focuses on motivating individuals to have an environmentally sensitive approach to gardening and recognizing the importance of water conservation.
“People who have disease and pest problems don't realize it until they've gone kind of far,” McNulty told Aiken Standard. “So, we encourage people to be proactive in scouting their gardens and finding things early; and then you're able to do something that has a very light footprint.”
For those who may have never visited Cold Creek, this is a great opportunity to learn what they do, Berley said.
“Garden centers have struggled over the years and have tried to stay afloat,” Berley said. “We're one of the few left that are still providing plant knowledge and advice on unique plants you probably won't find at the box stores.”
“Making It Grow!” airs live on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. on SCETV, with replays at 8 p.m. on the S.C. Channel and Saturdays at 3:30 p.m. on the S.C. Channel.
