Letter: Support Furgiuele for Council

Over the past 12 years, I have had the privilege of serving the residents of Aiken County. As such, I have more than a passing interest in next Tuesday’s Republican primary at which time the voters will select my replacement.

It is my sincere hope and belief they will choose Camille Furgiuele. Simply put, Furgiuele will make an excellent councilperson.

The depth and breadth of her experience in the public sector is truly impressive having served as both town manager and chief financial officer of a community about the size of Aiken. The financial management skills she possesses is precisely what is needed on Council as the County faces dwindling resources and increased demands for services. Furgiuele will be an excellent steward of the taxpayers’ dollars.

Not only does she have the best resumé in the field, she has strength of character to do what is right. Too often seemingly good folks are elected to office only to forget why they were elected in the first place. They pursue private agendas with little regard to doing what is best for all the citizens they represent. Not so with Furgiuele. Her service on the County Transportation Committee, the Planning Commission and the Citizens Advisory Board has been exemplary and without regard to personal political ambition.

In closing, I am grateful for having had the opportunity to represent the residents of District 2 for more than a decade. And frankly, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t just a little bit sad as my final term winds down. However, I will sleep easier knowing the job is in the hands of a most capable public servant. Please join me in supporting Furgiuele.

Scott Singer

Aiken

County Council District 2 representative
