Editor's note: This is the second in a two-part series highlighting the valedictorians and salutatorians at local high schools. The first part of the series highlighted Fox Creek High School's valedictorian and salutatorian in the May 22 issue of The North Augusta Star.
Sheena Amin has had a lot of support to get to this point. Her parents have always been by her side, but also pushing her to strive for great things.
Amin, North Augusta High School's valedictorian, is the daughter of Nilesh and Vishakha Amin.
In the fall, she will attend Clemson University to major in bioengineering.
“I want to be a doctor when I grow up, and I thought bioengineering would be challenging,” she said, noting that her parents want her to have a good job in her field.
Throughout her high school career, Amin has been involved with a number of clubs and organizations.
Her participation in student council, Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Interact Club, Environmental Club, Academic Team, Science Bowl and the National Honor Society have kept her quite busy.
She was also inducted into the North Augusta High School Hall of Fame Class of 2013-14 earlier this year.
According to her school's newspaper, The Yellow Jacket, Amin has maintained straight A's throughout her high school academic career.
Outside of school, Amin said she likes to volunteer her time at a local hospital – a place where it is quite unlikely that one would find many teenagers.
“It's because I am really interested in the medical field,” she said.
Beyond getting her undergraduate degree, Amin already has her sights set on what's to come beyond that.
She is interested in surgery, and in particular, cardiovascular surgery.
Amin, along with salutatorian Nicole Fuller, will give speeches at North Augusta's graduation on June 5 at the USC Aiken Convocation Center, located at 375 Robert M. Bell Parkway, Aiken, at 2 p.m.
