BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) -- A Bluffton high school teacher and wrestling coach has been arrested on charged of assault and battery.

Police Capt. Joseph Manning said 45-year-old John Hollman is accused of slapping a female student on the bottom during class. Manning said the student complained.

Hollman’s attorney Tabor Vaux said his client is a well-respected coach and teacher and says the matter should have been handled through the school system rather than the court system.

Manning said school resource officers interviewed the student and witnesses.
